Puppy foods carry more protein and fat because growing dogs need more energy per kilo of body weight. Large and giant breeds should stay on a large-breed puppy food until 12–24 months; small breeds can usually move to adult food at about 10–12 months.
How to choose the right dry food
1. Match the life stage
Puppy, adult and senior foods are not interchangeable. Feed a puppy formula until your dog is fully grown, then switch over about 7 days, mixing a little more of the new food into the old each day.
